People Operations Business Analyst

Location: Newport Beach, CA onsite

Pay Rate: $38/hour DOE

Type: Consultant (6 months)

Hours: M-F 8am-5pm

Overview

We are seeking a technically inclined People Operations Business Analyst to support HR systems, data quality, workflow optimization, and employee lifecycle processes. This role blends HR operations with system troubleshooting, reporting, and process improvement. Ideal for someone early in their HR technology/operations career who enjoys problem-solving, finding efficiencies, and supporting scalable HR processes.


Key Responsibilities

HR Systems & Operational Support

  • Process, audit, and troubleshoot employee lifecycle transactions in HRIS, ensuring accurate workflows and data flow.
  • Support HR case management activities, including routing, case tracking, and resolution assistance.
  • Participate in system testing for new features, enhancements, and integrations by developing test scripts, conducting UAT, and documenting results.
  • Identify and resolve system issues through root-cause analysis and coordination with HR and Technology teams.

Reporting, Data & Analytics

  • Build and maintain recurring HR reports, dashboards, and ad-hoc data extracts.
  • Conduct data accuracy checks, investigate discrepancies, and partner with HR teams to correct issues.
  • Analyze transaction and inquiry data to surface trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities for automation.

Knowledge & Content Management

  • Create and maintain HR knowledge articles in the case management/knowledge system.
  • Ensure content is accurate, searchable, tagged properly, and easy for employees to navigate.
  • Review analytics to identify opportunities to strengthen self-service resources.

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Assist with documenting current-state and future-state process flows.
  • Support workflow redesign and operational efficiency initiatives.
  • Collaborate on automations using low-code/no-code tools (e.g., Workday EIBs, ServiceNow configurations, Excel formulas, or workflow triggers).
  • Reduce manual administrative tasks through templates, triggers, process adjustments, and tool enhancements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Translate business needs into clear requirements for HR and Technology partners.
  • Participate in standups, planning meetings, and problem-solving discussions.
  • Provide support for system-driven HR processes and employee service delivery.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 1-2 years in HR operations or HR technology; internships accepted.
  • Working knowledge of Workday and ServiceNow (case management, reporting, or transactions).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and data accuracy skills.
  • Ability to document processes, requirements, and test scenarios.
  • Proficiency with Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables).

Preferred

  • Experience with Workday EIBs, calculated fields, or report creation.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow HRSD (routing, categories, case types, knowledge articles).
  • Exposure to Agile methodologies.
  • Basic understanding of APIs, integrations, or HR data structures.
